This chart shows the number of prescription items dispensed per person in the UK countries from 2006 to 2013 (data for Scotland is in financial years but is shown this way for consistency with other countries).
The number of items prescribed has risen in all the four countries in the UK. Wales consistenly has the highest items per person dispensed compared to other UK nations.
In 2013, 24 items per person were dispensed in Wales, compared to 21 in Northern Ireland and 19 in both Scotland and England.
